March 4, 2011

My back right tire was looking low, so I filled them all up.

Figured I should get gas.  I hated every second of it.  Bad.

Stopped by HEB for a little Edamame for nutrition class.

March 1, 2011

Had to get some veggies for Nutrition and Cooking Class tomorrow.

Hopefully, I'll get some donations from students.  Especially because our school will probably be closed within the month.

February 27, 2011

I bought some vegetables.  I bought them from HEB.  I'm excited to eat them.  In various ways.

I got hit by a car on my bike after hanging out with Ster and Kathryn.  Luckily that didn't cost me shit.

February 26, 2011

Went to Bouldin to meet with students.  No one showed up.  It was sprinkling as I sat outside, reading, and sipping on a coconut assam tea.  I also ate a tofu basic taco with jalapeƱos.  I used a GIFT CARD from Ster and Kathryn...

...and tipped the lady.

Met up with Nick and Scott at the Tavern and had beers while we watched Texas blow a 22 point lead to lowly Colorado, finally losing by 2 and giving up 58 points in the second half.  Sucky.  I did, however, get a free beer because of a bit of confusion with the waitperson...

...who I tipped graciously, sort of.

February 25, 2011

Took the bike to East Side Pedal Pushers to get a spoke wrench (actually 2), and to get my wheel trued.  They were awesome about it, and trued the thing for free, on account of it being purchased there and being so out of true in a relatively short period....

...because they were nice about it, I tipped them.

Went on a bike ride, stopped at Whole Foods, looking for a nut milk bag.  No dice, but they had young coconuts.  I bought one, with a GIFT CARD!

On the way back, stopped at HEB 7th street, for some veggies.  Also, I bought a large beer, a Corona Familiar, which I used to drink in Mexico.

Thursday, February 24, 2011

February 24, 2011

Paid for parking at the First Baptist Church for the meeting at Literacy Day 2011.

Got some money back for t-shirts.

Ran to HEB for some vegetables for salad.

February 23, 2011

Bought 18 shirts to print for Literacy Day.

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

February 22, 2011

Stopped by the store in the morning and got some fruit.

Stopped by HEB on the way home to buy stuff for Wednesday's nutrition class.

Had to run to Home Depot to fix the cabinets I broke so humorously.

Monday, February 21, 2011

February 21, 2011

Went to Home Depot for some garden stuff.  I've built four garden beds and I'm hoping for sprouts in a few days.

Stopped by the Thrift Store for a couple of shirts, glasses, a tie, and some jackets.

February 20, 2011

Bought stuff for Asian Kale Salad.

Kajanman was in town.  We had some beers at the house.  I made Asian kale salad.  I also provided 12 beers, most of which I didn't drink.

February 19, 2011

No money, no money, no money, no money.  I did drink about 9 gin drinks with mom and dad.  Texas lost to Nebraska by three after coming back from 11 points down.

Happy Birthday Michael Jordan.

Had to get gas.  I had to.  I hated every second of it, and when I got home I looked for a used diesel to turn into a biodiesel, to no avail.  My perfect pump was little consolation for such a big purchase.

February 16, 2011

Stopped at HEB Riverside on the way to school for some fruits and veggies for school.

Stopped by HEB Riverside on the way from school for some fruits and veggies for my face.  Also, stocked up on sunflower seeds and stevia for sweetening.

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

February 15, 2011

Bought some fruits for class!

Bought some stuff for sprouted lentil veggie burgers, juices, and other business, including 18 lbs of oranges.

February 14, 2011

Stopped off at HEB for some fruits, bagels, and veggies in the morning for snack.

Went to City Market in the evening for my own fruits and vegetables, specifically for KimChi

February 13, 2011

On the way home, I used father's gas card outside of Lafayette, Louisiana.  I then left my wallet on top of my car and drove away.  It was fucked.  I stopped again outside of Houston, in Winnie, for gas.  I realized that I didn't have my wallet.  I was pissed.  I searched and searched, to no avail.  I wrote a check for 100 dollars, and used 25 of that to fill up my tank.

February 12, 2011

Spent the day at the lake in Baton Rouge.  It was free.  At night, we went to meet up with some peoples to have beers and food at Chelsea's.  I was happy to get food for Yvonne, Paul and I.

...and I tipped the waitperson, who was terribly nice to move us all around.

February 11, 2011

Got a free meal from my woman.  We ate with Paul, her younger brother.

February 10, 2011

Stopped by HEB on the way to work for fruit, Braggs, and piloncillo.  For the trip and class.

Bought a Valentine's gift for an unspecified person for an unspecified amount.

Got an oil change and spoke with a wonderful woman about her job working with permanently handicapped folks.  She was real nice to chat with.

Stopped by to pick up a few shirts from the cleaners.

Had to get some gas right before Baton Rouge, in Egan, Louisiana.

Arrived in Baton Rouge around 12:30 AM.

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

February 9, 2011

Stopped by HEB in the freezing rain on the way to work.  I bought a bunch of veggies, including red bell peppers, avocados, broccoli, cucumber, hearts of palm, artichokes.  I had an unbelievable salad today.

Also, bought some fruit for class.  Oranges and bananas.

February 8, 2011

Ran to the store this morning for some fruits.  We juiced our asses off in class today.  Probably 100 carrots, 25 stalks of celery, a pineapple, and parsley.

Monday, February 7, 2011

February 7, 2011

Stopped by the store this morning for some fruits.

Grabbed some Bun after a frustrating orientation (which had zero attendees)...

...and tipped the feller.

Got some gas, jerk.  Less than ever I'm spending on gas.  But still...

Went to Saver's looking for jars to sprout lentils.  Didn't find any that work.  So, I bought a Mexico flag, a tablecloth (for sprout jar tops), a coffee grinder (for spices), an incredible REI full size pack in great shape, and a navy blue suit with penstripes, which fits amazingly.  It's a McGregor, old, and real nice.

Jumped across the street to grab some green lentils to sprout.  I had a great conversation with Mike, who is planning on moving to Ecuador, to escape the "police state that our country has become."  I also bought some napa cabbage for kimchi, some garlic and jalapenos.

Sunday, February 6, 2011

February 6, 2011

Rode the bike by the flea market on Elmont, future site of my school.  Stopped on the way back at HEB for some salad and fruit stuff.

Bought a few beers for the super bowl.

Saturday, February 5, 2011

February 5, 2011

Had a cup of tea at the new Bouldin Creek this morning, waiting on students...

...and tipped the waitperson.

On the way to Teresa's apartment for Rosalinda's baby shower, I stopped to get some sodas.  I also, for some reason, bought a large Coors Original beer.  I think the combination of the beautiful day, the Tejano music, and the prospect of a free day, the beer sounded great.  Of course, I didn't bring it into the party, and had the intention of drinking it afterwards.  Now that I've made it home, had a large orange juice, and planted a small garden bed, I don't really feel like drinking it as much as I did.  I think I just might, however, just to see how it goes down.  I haven't had any booze in a week or more.

February 4, 2011

Today is a snow day.  I ordered some clothing online using a gift card that my students bought for me.  It was a lovely gesture.  I feel bad that they'll never be able to see me enjoying my clothing, for I bought underwear.  I was forced by JC Penney to pay tax as well as shipping, which frustrated me.  For all I got, however, the figure you see below is quite reasonable.

Paid the damn electric bill, which demonstrates our occasional use of the heating system.

Paid the damn internet bill, which I guess I'll just have to swallow, along with some cantaloupe juice.

Had to run to Fiesta for some produce.  I've got juice to juice the juice.  "I got the juice."  I got tons of stuff, including a B complex vitamin for my B12, Tom's toothpaste, Basalmic Vinegar, and Bandaids for my finger cut from today's cantaloupe juice bathroom fiasco.  Suckas.

Stopped by the Dollar Store to pick up a couple of small gifts for my students' new baby.  We're having a small baby shower tomorrow, and I aim to bring some stuff to welcome the new human to the world.

February 3, 2011

Grabbed four big bags of old oranges, two avocados, and a three pound bag of carrots.  For juicing.

February 2, 2011

Ran by Goodwill to get some blankets to cover the garden and other plants.

Stopped by City Market for some juicing supplies, especially old fruit.

February 1, 2011

Stopped by HEB Riverside to grab some fruits for class.  Bananas, oranges, apples.

January 10, 2011

Stopped for some fruit and pan dulce for the first day of class today.  Used Mom and Dad's Christmas present, which was some HEB money.  The cards were cleared out, and I owed a cool half dollar or so.

After the first day of class, which was lovely, I wanted to get out of the office and have a little pho.  The cold came today, and pho sounded better than any reheated leftovers at my desk.  The food was hot and good...

...and the service was nice, too.

After work, I went on a run for some more baskets for books.  In an effort to save time and gas, I stopped off at Dollar General, and was unable to find what I was looking for.  I did, however, find some thumb tacks and a pair of corduroy house shoes.

Went ahead and made the trip over to Dollar Tree, where I knew they had my buckets.  I bought some.  Fifteen of them.

I had to stop to print and laminate some game boards at Kinko's because our printers at work stink.

Finally, to finish the shopping trip, I stopped at City Market for some beans and tortillas, avocados and jalapenos.

I'm sick of spending money today.

January 8, 2011

Uf.  I did it this morning.  Spent it, that is.

I started the day off at Bouldin Creek Coffee Shop (the new 1900 location), and had a coffee with a refill.  I read and waited for students, none of whom made it out (no surprise) and drank about 25 cups of water.  Full service Bouldin is very strange.  The coffee and the server were both nice...
-2.50 I tipped him a little.

Headed North up Burnet for some book baskets.  Found them at Dollar Tree, along with some border for bulletin boards.

Continued North and stopped off at Recycled Reads.  I've decided that each time I get paid, I'm allowed to go there and pick up ten dollars worth of books.  This was a miserable failure.
-27.00 (keep in mind this bought me about 65 books, so hush!)

Continued North on Burnet and hit MGM Indian market, for some dal, fenugreek, ginger, and some other sundries and spices.  Also grabbed a samosa to eat with my cauliflower at home.

From here, I swung over to Lamar and stopped off at Ace Mart Restaurant to get some baskets for fruit for the classrooms.  I saw 11,000 dollars worth of stuff that I would love to have someday, especially in a school...

...and because the lady was out of pennies, she gave me a little too much change.

Finally, and I hope this means finally, I stopped at Wheatsville coop for some bagels to eat in the morning.  Portland ruined me, because now I want bagels nearly constantly.  Rockstar bagels, buy 5 get 1 free.  Helluva deal.

So, I bought some beers on the way to Nick's place...

...and Nick reimbursed me for his beers.

January 7, 2011

Went to Savers for some buckets for classroom library.  Didn't find any.  Did find a sweater, two Mexico jerseys, a couple of books, and some plastic cups for class.  Too much money, but I got excited about the jerseys.  I bought one a couple of months ago which had a rubbery sort of logo which melted in the laundry.  These are stitched.

January 6, 2011

I deposited a paycheck, grabbed some cash, and went to City Market for a little produce (tomatoes, lettuce, serranos, cilantro, and 5 lbs of potatoes, which is .3571428 stones).  Straight cash, homie.

January 5, 2011

Today, at lunch, I went to Hai Kai and had a vegan bun noodle bowl.  I needed to get out of the classroom, and besides, had no lunch.  So there!

...and I tipped the guy.

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

January 4, 2011

Stopped at the Mrs. Bairds' Bakery Outlet on Tillery and got some bagels.  They're these little bagels called "Thin," which seemingly has come out of people's newfound fear of carbs.  They suck worse than anything in the world.  I know what happens, too, to the people trying to avoid carbs: they eat one of these, along with sandwich stuff (mayonnaise, ham, cheese, etc...bacon probably), their stomach doesn't feel full, so they eat two more of the same, thereby doubling the carb intake overall.  Take a normal bagel, sit on it, scrape all the herbs and seeds from it, leave it out for a week, and serve with a shit-eating grin.  I'm not a bagel connoisseur by any means, though that might be a nice time, but these are another animal.  A terrible animal.  Enough of that, they were cheap.

January 3, 2011

Grabbed a 100s chart for the publication date reading.

Stopped at Half Price Books for some 75 books to read this year (by publication date (see blog)).
Found one that I'm threatened by.  Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann, 1901.
